COACHING TRAINING
For anyone who works with Students
Whether you are in FE or HE or in the workplace – this course is for you
Building independent thinking and resilience in your students
When working with students, whether that be in Further Education, Higher Education or in the workplace it is vital that we differentiate between telling our students what to do and enabling them to learn how to work out what to do. Coaching helps them learn how to make decisions for themselves, and allows them to make changes in their lives and find their own solutions. This ultimately builds their self-confidence, their resilience and decreases their dependence on others.
Ensuring that your staff know the difference between training, mentoring, coaching and therapy is essential when they are working one to one or with groups of students. Coaching can have a unique effect so it is vital to understand when to use it. Mixing up these skills can mean the students become or stay dependent and mature into learning to have their own ideas.
We don’t just offer a coaching course!
The Fundamentals of Coaching workshop is an interactive modular workshop. The first module defines the different skills that can be used (training, mentoring, coaching and therapy) and discusses why they are all essential but different.
Five more modules ensure that your team are equipped to coach their students and bring out the best in them. There’s lots of practical exercises ensuring that at the end of the workshop, the participants have skills they can immediately use.
We offer two formats for the course, online or face-face. Both offer the same content but are formatted differently to match the delivery method.
Introducing our courses
Open Courses
Running every six months our online open courses are suitable for anyone working with students in any environment. And as they are online you can join from anywhere. Contact us to find out when the next one starts.
Inhouse courses
Our in-house courses can be tailored to your requirements or you can choose our standard course. They can be face-to-face, in your own facilities or in a neutral location of your choosing. Or, if it is hard to release your team for two days, or they are scattered in different locations, we can also run the course online over 6 sessions. The content is the same, the only difference is that the activities are modified to make them suitable for an online environment and the practices are done as homework, with other participants or with colleagues or students. Who are our courses suitable for?
Anyone who works with students, apprentices or learners of any kind!
Do you work in any of these areas? If so the Fundamentals of Coaching will help you
- Wellbeing teams or Student Liaison
- Those working with students or learners in Further Education
- Tutors or Lecturers
- Anyone working with under-graduates or post-graduates in Higher Education
- Training Managers in Industry or the workplace
- Anyone working with apprentices
Wellbeing teams, Student Liaisons and those working in Further Education
You run a wellbeing team and your staff talk to students on a daily basis. You are responsible for Student Liaison or in any role in Further Education where you talk to students.
You want them to help build resilience and self-confidence, but mentoring is more about telling them what to do. Training your team on the Fundamentals of Coaching equips them to empower the students to have their own ideas, put them into action and see the results happening – all from their own work. Transformation is fast and can make a huge difference to the students – and inspire your staff that they are setting up their students for the future.
Tutors, Lecturers and those working in Higher Education
You are Tutor or Lecturer in Higher Education and you are struggling with the same conversations over and over with your students. How do you get them to take more responsibility during their 1-1 meetings instead of you always guiding them? Coaching gives you the tools to ask questions and ensure that the students take the lead, building resilience and independence and helping them think for themselves.
Training Managers and those working in industry
In the workplace, as a Training Manager, you need to build independence and resilience in your apprentices or students. And to do that they need to not come to you with every single issue they come up against. With your new coaching skills, you will be able to ask questions and ensure they are thinking for themselves, gradually ensuring that they come to you with ideas not questions in the future. Making a far more valuable employee for the future.
