Sometimes you just need a strategy! And someone to help you create and run it!

Putting a strategy together is hard, especially when you own, manage or have worked in a business for a long time.

A business strategist can help. And our brand of business strategist doesn’t take the thinking, planning and research away from you – it helps you tap into your own thinking and that of your team. By engaging with all of your business things get done quicker, the team get chance to engage and the vision, mission and values are lived throughout the organisation.

Strategists typically have a number of skills that enable them to help you! In my case I am an accredited business coach, a mentor and a trainer. I also have a background in multi-national industrial companies as a control engineer, in sales, management, and marketing.

Having someone else to help guide and manage group discussions and activities to achieve specific goals or outcomes is invaluable. And having someone who will be neutral and impartial during any discussions whilst encouraging the participants to contribute and ensuring everyone is heard is invaluable.

How can we help?

We have helped large and small companies set goals and then build the strategies and action steps needed to achieve those goals. Being able to work with your team instead of lead them through a process of setting and building a strategy is invaluable and helps you truly be part of future planning for your organisation, company or department.

Recent examples include:

A UK subsidiary of a global industrial organisation asked me to take the topics they had identified as key for achieving their 5 year goals and run an event where the key drivers for those topics came together, set goals for each topic and then put a strategy in place with defined actions and goals. Once that was complete I met with them quarterly to review progress. Yes the MD could have done this himself but a) he wanted to be part of the conversation not running it and b) having an external strategist running the event meant that the importance of this strategy was underlined and was distinct from business as usual

An industry body wanted to run a strategy review event for its members. The team wanted to be part of the workshop, so they asked me to facilitate the day and then to work with them afterward to identify a number of key strategies to take forward. We worked together to put an agenda together and the day was a great success with new elements introduced to ensure that all members had their say about their key interests.

An SME was growing. But this meant that the owner wasn’t speaking personally to all of his team as often as he did. They were struggling to see his vision now for the business and a few people left, the others then more dissatisfied. He asked my advice and we agreed to get the whole company together to discuss the vision, mission and values and then we asked them all how they could help achieve them. Three years later, the team are engaged and the strategy has acheived more than the owner could have imagined!

“The British Fluid Power Association had the pleasure of having Jacqui Hanbury facilitate our Strategy Day involving over 40 of our member companies. With Jacqui’s planning and expertise, our meeting was ran really well and she helped to drive open and constructive discussions. Looking forward to Jacqui’s assistance in March 2025 to follow up on the next steps in our strategic plan.”

“Jacqui is very skilled at helping to articulate and manage a strategic plan. We worked together for more than 4 years at Biesse Ltd and went on a great journey of continuous improvement in all areas of the business. With her help and support, I saw our managers grow and I can categorically say that we wouldn’t have been where we are without her involvement.”

Steve Bulmer
previously Managing Director at Biesse Ltd
